Step-by-step guide to getting the right dimensions.
Tip: walls are rarely perfectly square. Always measure at multiple points and use the largest reading — it is easier to trim a small overage than to reorder.

01
Before You Start
- Clear the wall of furniture and artwork so you can measure accurately from edge to edge.
- For walls wider than 8 feet (240 cm), work with a helper to keep the tape measure straight and level.
- Our order form accepts both inches and centimetres — use whichever you are comfortable with.
02
Measure the Width
- Measure the full width of the wall (or the section you want to cover) at three heights: near the top, in the middle, and near the bottom.
- Write down all three readings and use the largest number for your order.
- For a partial feature wall, measure only the section you want covered, starting from your preferred edge.
- If your wall has a door or window: measure the full wall width from corner to corner — you can order the full width and trim on-site, or note the obstacle in the order comments.
03
Measure the Height
- Measure floor-to-ceiling at three points: left side, centre, and right side of the wall.
- Write down all three and use the largest number.
- If you have a baseboard (skirting board), you can subtract its height if you prefer the mural to sit above it — or include it and trim on-site for a cleaner finish.
- Standard US ceiling heights are 96 inches (8 ft) or 108 inches (9 ft) — but always measure your specific room as they vary.
04
Final Check & Notes
- Round your final measurements up to the nearest inch. It is always easier to trim a small overage than to reorder.
- Add 1–2 inches of bleed on each side if your wall corners are not perfectly square — this gives you adjustment room during installation.
- Write your final dimensions as Width × Height (e.g. 144" × 96") before placing your order.
- Measure twice, order once — a quick double-check before checkout saves significant time and cost.

Understanding Your Order
Panels, bleed, and what to expect when your mural arrives.
Every Golden Era Walls mural is printed to order — no two orders are identical. Your dimensions are unique to your wall.
01
Custom Sizing — How It Works
- There are no pre-set sizes. Enter your exact Width × Height on the product page and the price adjusts automatically.
- Our murals are panoramic scenes — not repeating patterns — so there is no pattern repeat to account for.
- The design scales proportionally to fill your exact dimensions, keeping the composition centred and balanced.
02
How Panels Work
- Your mural arrives as multiple vertical panels — typically 20–24 inches (50–60 cm) wide — that join edge-to-edge on your wall.
- Each panel is numbered in sequence so installation is straightforward: start from the left and work right.
- Panel seams are designed to fall between visual elements where possible, minimising their visibility.
- All panels are pre-cut to your order — no trimming of panel width is required.
03
Ordering Tips
- Order a sample first — our samples let you check colour accuracy, texture, and material before committing to a full mural.
- Covering multiple walls? Measure and order each wall as a separate product so each mural is optimised for its exact dimensions.
- Ceiling murals: swap your width and height dimensions — Width = the shorter span of the ceiling, Height = the longer span.
- Not sure which material suits your wall? Visit our Wallpaper Materials Guide to compare Peel & Stick, Pre-Pasted, and Traditional Non-Woven.
